82-225 <br />pertaining to <br />and Section 39-5 pertaining <br /> <br /> June 22, 1982 <br /> <br /> "Consideration of an ordinance to amend Section 12-46 of the City Code <br /> fire prevention code appeals; Section 17-18 pertainingt) housing code appeals <br /> to appeals from notices to remove weeds ant debris. <br /> <br /> ordinance formalizes an administrative <br /> weed and debris riolations and fire code <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Whitlow and seconded by Mrs. Webb the following ~rdinance was adopted, <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGI5 ~A, 1975, BY AMENDING <br /> SECTION 12-46, PERTAINING TO FIRE PREVENTION CODE APPEALS: BY AMENDING SECTION 17-18, <br /> PERTAINING TO HOUSING CODE APPEALS: AND BY AMENDING SECTION 39-5, PERTAINING TO APPEALS FROM <br /> NOTICES TO REMOVE WEEDS AND DEBRIS." <br /> <br /> In follow-up to the Code Enforcement Study, this <br />appeal procedure for minimum housing code violations, <br />violations. The City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Beamer, Gray, Oast, Webb, Whitlow <br /> <br /> 82-226 "Consideration of an ordinance changing the name of Southern Pines Road to <br />Winston Road. <br /> <br /> Application has been made to the Planning Commission for a change in the street name of <br />Southern Pines Road to Winston Road. The Planning Commission at its meeting on June 3, 1982 <br />recommended approval of the request. The City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Gray the f~llowing ordinance was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF SOUTHERN PINES ROAD." <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Gray, Webb, Whitlow <br /> Nays~' No~ <br /> <br /> Abstaining: Oast <br /> <br /> 82-227 "Consideration of a resolution endorsing and supporting the Somerton Creek and <br />Assamoosick Swamp Potable Water Supply Project subject to final review of proposals for <br />development of environmental impact studies and approval of the cost to the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> This resolution express the support of Portsmouth to continue with the Assamoosick <br />Swamp Project by obtaining proposals from prospective contractors for the completion of <br />environmental impact studies. The endorsement is subject to final review of the proposals and <br />determination and approval of the cost to the City of Portsmouth. The City Manager recommends <br />adoption." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Barnes the following resolution was adopted <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE SOMERTON CREEK A~D ASSAMOOSICK SWAMP <br />SUPPLY PROJECT SUBJECT TO FINAL REVIEW OF PROPOSALS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL <br />AND APPROVAL OF THE COST TO THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH THEREOF. <br /> <br />POTABLE WATER <br />IMPACT STUDIE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Southeastern Public Service Authority of Virginia has prepared a report for a <br />proposed source of surface water supply for Southeastern Virginia entitled, "Somerton Creek and <br />Assamoosick Swamp Preliminary Engineering Report", dated February, 1982; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the findings of said report indicate that the proposed Assamoosick Swamp reservoir <br />related facilities will produce approximately sixty-five million (65,000,000) gallons per day of <br />potable surface water; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this quantity of water, if developed, will meet <br />needs well into the Twenty-first Century at a cost below that <br />and <br /> <br />Southeastern Virginia's water supply <br />of new surface water supply alterna- <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it will be necessary to select a contractor to develop the necessary environmental <br />impact reports for such project and to determine the share of the cost thereof to be paid by the <br />City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it <br />does hereby support and endorse the Somerton Creek and Assamoosick Swamp potable water supply <br />project subject to final review of proposals for development of environmental impact reports <br />and approval of the cost to the City of Portsmouth thereof." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Gray, Oast, Webb, Whitlow <br /> <br /> <br />
