136 <br /> <br />July 27, 1982 <br /> <br /> 82-273 "Consideration of a resolution appointing viewers for the closing of ~ portion <br />of the following streets: Lindsay Avenue, G Street, Ivey Place, Paradist Street and Lee <br />Street. <br /> As required by State law, attached is a resolution appointing viewers for the closing <br />of a lBorltionof the above named streets. A map is attached to the resolution showing the <br />portions to be closed. The City Manager recommends adoFtion.'' <br /> On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Beamer the following resolution was adopted <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR CLOSING A PORTION OF THE FOLLOWING STREETS: <br /> LINDSAY AVENUE, G STREET, IVEY PLACE, PARADISE STREET AND LEE STREET. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has made application to vacate, close and discontinue <br />the hereinafter-described portions of certain streets, and it appearing that notice of <br />application and request for the appointment of viewers was duly advertised according to law <br />by.publication in the Virginian Pilot-Ledger Star, a new~paper of general circulation in <br />the C{t~ of P6rtsmouth, on July 2Oth and July 26th, 1982. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that A. N. Kendrick, Linon Vann, C. H. Hairston, James H. Griffin and James L. Linehan be <br />appointed viewers, and that C. L. Knight and Clinton J. Fortune be appointed alternate <br />viewers in the event one of the preceding viewers fails to participate, said viewers to <br />view the hereinafter-described portions of such streets, and to report to this Council in <br />writing whether in their opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience would result in vacating <br />and closing the following: <br /> <br />PARADISE STREET <br /> <br /> All that portion of Paradise Street beginning at the west intersection of Paradise <br />Street and Ivey Place as the same existed at the time of closure of Ivey Place by <br />ordinance adopted December 1955 and extending in a westerly direction to the southern <br />boundary of the property acquired by the City of Portsmouth by deed of Jean McLean <br />Davis recorded in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth in <br />Deed Book 797, page 571. <br /> <br />LEE STREET <br /> <br /> All that portion of Lee Street beginning at the point of intersection of Lee Street <br />and the southern boundary of Elliott Avenue and extending in a southerly direction to <br />the southern boundary of property acquired by the City of Portsmouth from Jean McLean <br />Davis recorded in Deed Book 797, page 571 in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court <br />of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Q Street <br /> <br /> All that portion of G Street beginning at the point of intersection of G Street and <br />the southern bcundary of Elliott Avenue and extending in a southerly direction to the <br />Southern boundary of the property acquired by the City of Portsmouth from Jean McLean <br />Davis by deed recorded in Deed Book 797, page 571 in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit <br />Court of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />LINDSAY AVENUE <br /> <br />All that portion of gindsay Avenue beginning at the western most part of the intersectio <br />of Lindsay Avenue and G Street and extending in an easterly direction 420' <br /> <br />IVEY PLACE <br /> <br />All that portion of Ivey Place beginning at the southern boundary <br />by the City of Portsmouth from Jean McLean Davis by deed recorded <br />page 571 in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City <br />extending in a northerly direction 50'." <br /> <br />Ayes: Beamer, Gray, Holley, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> of property acquired <br /> in Deed Book 797, <br />of Portsmouth and <br /> <br /> 82-274 "Consideration of a m~tion to transfer $10,000 from the grant contingency <br />account to supplement the Community Arts Center. <br /> <br /> The City of Portsmouth has received two grants in the amount of $5,000 each, totaling <br />$10,000 from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The-~ first grant for the American <br />Drawing IV competition, which is City sponsored. The second will be used to enrich the <br />Community Arts Center. These grants are 100% State funded and require no local funding. <br />7he City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Cra5 and seconded by Mrs. Webb, that authorization be granted to <br />transfer $10,000 from the grant contingency account,~as.requested, and was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
