<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that
<br />the City Council does hereby accept the offer of John W. Johnson to purchase certain herein-
<br />after-described property owned by the City of Portsmcuth lccated in the City of Chesapeake,
<br />Virginia, for the sum of Five Thousand, Four Hundred Dollars ($5,400.).
<br /> Said property being more particularly described as follows:
<br /> All that certain parcel of land located in the Deep Creek borough of the City of Chesap
<br /> bounded and described as follows:
<br /> Beginning at a point on the southern boundary of the Norfolk and Western Railroad right-
<br /> of Zway said peint being south 82!45' west 1208.05' from mile post number 11 on said rail~
<br /> right-of-way; thence south 29!50' west 927.~8' along the boundary of the property now or
<br /> formerly known as the Pertsmouth ditch to a point; thence south 60! 10' east 375.77~ to
<br /> point being the center line of Deep Creek Run, said point also being the western boundar
<br /> of property now or formerly owned by Norfelk and Western Railroad Company by deed recordl
<br /> in Deed Book 368, page 412, in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of
<br /> Chesapeake; thence in a northeasterly direction along the center line of Deep Creek run
<br /> and the boundary of said Norfolk an~ Western Railroad Company property, a distance of
<br /> 1,050.6', more or less, to a point on the boundary line of property now or formerly owne~
<br /> by Norfolk and Western Railroad Company by deed recorded in Deed Book 368, page 498 in t~
<br /> Circuit Court of the City of Chesapeake; thence north 73!20' west 143.2' ~o a point;
<br /> ~hence north 45!33' west 167.5' to a point; thence north 66!45' west 165' to a point on
<br /> the southern boundary of the Norfolk and Western Railread Company right-of-way; thence
<br /> south 82!45' west 63.8' along the boundary of said Railroad right-of-way to the point of
<br /> beginning. Said parcel containing approximately 10 acres.
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to sign su~
<br /> deeds and other documents as may be required to convey said ~roperty and to complete this
<br /> transaction."

<br /> WHEREAS, the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission has announced the closing of t~o
<br />(2) stores ~n Portsmouth located at 521 Middle Street and 1422 High Street; and
<br /> WHEREAS, residents, businesses and property owners in the areas of the City affected by
<br />the proposed closing have expressed their interest in having such facility continue to be
<br />located in their area, and particularly in the downtown shopping district of the City; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth through its waterfront development and downtown busines
<br />district promotion will attract additional residents, visitors and commercial activities to
<br />area and will create a broader economic base to support Che continued operation of such ABC
<br />stores; and
<br /> WHEREAS, alternative approaches may be available to assure the continual provision of
<br />these services to the citizens in this area of the City.such as consolidation of locations
<br />and/or reducing or resch~duling hours of operation and staffing.
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that
<br />the City Council hereby expresses its concern at the scheduled closings of two (2) ABC stores
<br />in the City of Portsmouth.
<br />
<br />IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth urges the Alcoholic
<br />Control Commission to examine alternatives to these closings.
<br />IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, authorized to forward
<br />this resolution to the Chairman of the Alcohclic Beverage Control Cg, mmission, Senato~
