Qctober 12, 1982 <br /> <br /> 82-367 "Consideration of an ordinance on first reading to appropriate $25,000 from the <br />Capital Improvements Fund for completion of the exterior renovations to the 1846 Courthouse. <br /> This appropriation will provide the funds necessary to complete the exterior renovations <br />to the 1846 Courthouse. The 1846 Courthouse is designated as a Virginia Historical Landmark: <br />and, most of the funds expended to date for renovation have been provided through various <br />grants. Due to an increase in the number of burials without vaults, <br />hereby recommended that this ordinance be adopted." <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />7-35.1 to <br /> <br /> vaults <br /> it is <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mr. Gray the following ordinance was adopted and by <br />following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY ADDING <br />SECTION %-35.1 TO CHAPTER 7 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO BURIAL VAULTS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 82-369 "Consideration of a <br />Beechdale Road. <br /> <br />Gray, Holley, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br /> <br />resolution appointing viewers for the closing of a portion of <br /> <br /> The Industrial Development Authority has applied for the closing of a portion of Beechdale <br />Road as shown on the attached resolution and map. This road bisects a tract property which is <br />being developed by the Industrial Development Authority. The Planning Commission has recommend- <br />ed approval of this street closure. The attorney for the Industria] Development Authority has <br /> appointment of v~ewers as required by State Code. This <br /> to City Council. ' <br /> <br /> the <br /> a report back <br /> <br />seconded by Mr. <br /> <br /> FOR THE CLOSING <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Portsmouth Industrial Development Authority has made, application to vacate, close <br />discontinue the hereinafter-described portion of Beechdale Road, and it appearing that notice <br />of application and request for the appointment of viewers was duly advertised according to law. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />A. N. Kendrick, Simon P. Arrington, Richard D. Ottavio, ~ames V. McGhee, and Raymond Tweed be <br />appointed viewers, and that C. E. Ellis and C. L. Knight be appointed alternate viewers in the <br />event one of the preceding viewers fails to participate,~asaid viewers to view the hereinafter- <br />described portion of such street, and to report to th4s Council in writing whethercin their <br />opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience would result in vacating and closing the f~llowing: <br /> <br />BEECHDALE ~OAD <br /> <br /> Beginning at the southeast intersection of Beechdale Road and Gust Lane; <br />thence northeasterly along the south right-of-way of Beechdale Road 1,255 feet, <br />more or less to a point; thence westerly 50 feet to the north right-of,way of <br />Beechdale Road; thence southwesterly along said right-of-way 995 feet, more or <br />less, to the east right-of-way of Gust Lane; thence southwesterly along the east <br />right-of-way of Gust Lane 50 feet to the south right-of-way of Beechdale Road, <br />the~pofnt_'~f origin. This resolution also directs the Superintendent of Schools to advise the City Manager <br />of the receipt and expenditure of such funds.
