<br /> James E. Bridgeford, 1220 Jamal Lane, representing United Civic League of Cavalier Manor,
<br />lnc., stated he was very pleased of the improvements to be done on Greenwood Drive and that
<br />Cavalier Boulevard needed to be corrected; also thanked Mr. O'Kane for his cooperation.

<br /> On motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mrs. Webb, the following ordinance was approved
<br />on first reading; aontracts t6 be awarded, as recommended, and was adopted by unanimous vote:
<br />
<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE ~2,389,344 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR
<br />IMPROVEMENTS TO GREENWOOD DRIVE."

<br /> 84-155 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance closing a
<br />portion of Green Street.

<br /> "Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing
<br />of Green Street, between Argyle Street and
<br />Effingham Redevelopment Project.
<br />
<br />Authority has made application to close a portion
<br />Portsmouth Boulevard, in connection with the
<br />
<br /> As required by law the applicant has given the appropriate notice of application and
<br />viewers were appointed by Council, pursuant to law, on February 14, 1984. The viewers' report
<br />recommends approval. The Planning Commission, at its April meeting, also recommends approval.
<br />
<br />I, therefore, concur and recommend the adoption of the attached ordinance.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mrs. Webb, the following ordinance was adopted on
<br />first'and final reading, and by the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF GREEN STREET."

<br /> 84-186 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance closing a
<br />portion of Southern Avenue.
<br />
<br /> "Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commiss~6nn has made application to close a portion of
<br />Southern Avenue described as beginning at the west side of Hill Avenue and running a width of
<br />6~~ for a distance of 100' west to the previously closed portion of Southern Avenue.
<br />
<br /> As required by law the applicant has given the approriate notice of application and
<br />viewers were appointed by Council, pursuant to law, on April 24, 1984. The viewers' report
<br />recommends approval.
<br />
<br />I, therefore, concur and recommend the adoption of the attached ordinance."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Webb, the following ordinance was adopted
<br />on first and final reading, and by the following vote:

<br /> 84-157 - Letter f~ the City Manager recommending adoption of a resolution appointing
<br />viewers for closing a portion of Trexler Avenue.
<br />
<br /> "The City of Portsmouth has made application to vacate, close and discontinue all that
<br />portion of Trexler Avenue from its intersection with Magnolia Street westerly to the southern
<br />boundary of the property of the Department of Highways and Transportation of the Commonwealth
<br />of Virginia (1-264).
<br />
<br /> The attached resolution appoints viewers in accordance with the applicable State law to
<br />view the portion of such avenue, and to report to the Planning Commission, and ultimately the
<br />City Council, whether in their opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience would result in
<br />vacating and closing that portion of Trexler Avenue.
