84-253 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a motion to add First
American Bank of Virginia to the previously designated list of authorized depositories.

"The City Code requires in Sections ll--(a) and ll-9(a) that City funds be deposited to
the credi¢ of the City in such banks as the City Council may designate from time to time.
First American Bank of Virginia has recently opened an office in the City at 3315 High Street
and has reques%ed to beaadded to the City's lisz of authorized deppsitories.

Generally, it has been our policy to designate any requesting bank with an office located
in the City, to be an authorized depository. (There is one exception; the First Virginia Bank
of Nansemo~d is a depository due to its proximity to Portsmouth Sleepy Hole Golf Course.)
Temporary loans and investments are placed by bid with these banks from time to time and in-
dividual account placement has been generally based on degree of participation by the banks in
servicing the City's financial needs.

I have placed on your agenda a motion to designate ~he following banks as authorized
depositories for the funds of the City: Amerizan Bank, Atlantic National Bank, Bank of Virgini
Central Fidelity Bank, Chesapeake Bank and Trust, Citizens Trust Bank, Dominion~tionall Bank,
First American Bank of Virginia, First Virgznia Bank of Nansemond, Sovran Bank N.A. and United
Virginia Bank. This motion would add First American Bank of Virginia to the prev~asly desig-
nated list of authorized depositories.'~
