(See Exh~i <br /> .~ 7~yo~'~reqdested the City Attorney to review the matter and advise the Council' per- <br />taining to the legality of their inquzry. <br /> 84~256 Rosalind Gordon, 3902 High Street, to speak and requested an additional ~ <br /> <br /> Motion~o.f ~r_~ Beamer and seconded by Mrs. Webb, to grant Mrs. Gcrdon the additional <br />time, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Mrs. Gordon spoke concerning ~he following matters: <br /> <br />Inquired on the operation of a city dance class ~n Portsmouth. <br />New, sport center at the old Sears Building. <br />Pool at-Wo~ow Wilson High School. <br />Rebuilding of the City Park Bridge. <br />Allow bingo for ~und raising in ~he high schools for ~nd~equipment. <br />The need for resurfacing of High Street in the downtown area instead <br /> of the 3900 Block of High Street. <br /> <br /> The ~i.ty Manager stated that a recommendation would be coming to Council [n the near <br />future on the dance class and that ~here was a dance company in operation in the city. <br /> <br /> 84-257 Mrs. Rosie Perkins, 346 Saunders Drive, representing the Westhaven Areas Civic <br />League, presented the following resolution: <br /> <br />"WHEREAS;~ following its last annexation, Portsmouth undertook reorganization of its <br />municipal government and considered placement of the Rddevelopment and Housing Authority <br />staff under departmmmtal status of the City Manager as is the case in other Virginia <br />Cities suhh as Alexandria, Charlottesville, etc; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, community development funds for urban renewal no longer come to a redevelop- <br />ment and housing authority but reach them only as pass-through allocations arrived at <br />by a city council after advertised public hearings; and <br />WHEREAS, our City Council and City Manager are pledged to both economy of municipal <br />administration and to accelerated efforts toward community development and renewal, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that City Council as one its first actions of fiscal <br />1984-85 place the staff of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority within <br />the framework of municipal government under our City Manager; and <br /> <br />84-255) <br /> <br /> <br />
