308 <br /> <br />December lit 1984 <br /> <br /> Mr. Foytik spoke agaxnst the project and stated that the oYe~-crowdiBg and lack o£ open <br />space will down-grade the existing residential quality of Bruce Place, and the plan as it <br />stands is unacceptable to the community. <br /> <br /> Ted Steiner, One Crawford Parkway, spoke in opposition of closing the street for the <br />project and asked for denial of the project. <br /> <br /> Sherry Johnson, 127 Bruce Place, spoke concerning the parking and traffic problems that <br />could occur if the Froject is permitted. <br /> <br />Danny Steiner, 127 Bruce Place, requested an additional on~ minute. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, to grant Mr. Steiner an additional one <br />minute, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Mr. Steiner stated he was opposed to tne.~pzojeoz am~eeles~ng of the paper stre t, recom- <br />mended that the project be sent back to Plafihi~g:~Co~mi~slon for reconsideration. <br /> <br /> Hugh B. Slaydon, Jr., 635 Douglas Avenue, requested that if the project is approved, that <br />Mr. Eure make an easement to the city if property ~ho~2be sold: also, that the residents haw <br />voiced their opinions and that the project should be denied. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, that the following citizen be allowed to <br />speak, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Cornell J. Hilderbrand, 110 Bruce Place, spoke against the project and stated that there <br />was not sufficient area for parking. <br /> <br />The City Attorney advised Council of its optiom to the project. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and secoRed by Mrs. Webb, to concur with the recommendation of the <br />Planning Commission, GHP 84-1- to be denied, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Beamer, ~ray, Webb, Whitlow <br />Nays: Corprew, Lucas, Holley <br /> <br />84-526(1) <br /> <br />PARKING VARIANCE - <br /> <br />Request of Mr. John McGlynn, owner, by Kirk Berkeley, Arch <br />itect, for a special exception of off-street parking re- <br />quirements for proposed renovation and re-use of the Catho <br />Club at 450 Court Street in D-1 District, deferred from th, <br />regular meeting of November 13, 1984. <br /> <br />The City Manager submitted the following letter: <br /> <br /> "At your November 13, 1984 meeting, Mr. John O. McGlynn's request for a parking variance <br />(Catholic Club) was deferred in order to ascertain a definitive schedule for adaptive reuse of <br />the building and indication of financial participation for the proposed parking.lot behind <br />the 1846 Courthouse. <br /> <br /> Pat Coffield and Ted Masters have discussed these concerns with Mr. McGlynn and it would <br />appear in the best interest of all parties that the request be deferred until your May 14, 198 <br />meeting. Mr. McGlynn by then will have a better understanding on what he will do with the <br />basement and first floor of the building. His preferred use is for mixed use (restaurant and <br />shops), but his fallback plan is for additional apartments. The second and third floors would <br />be renovated for seven (7) apartments.
