Strategic Pillar #1: Get Stuff Done. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> Upon receipt of the grant funds, the City will disburse the funds to PPIC and PPIC <br /> <br />will disburse the funds to Norfolk & Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad. <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING PORT HOST COMMUNITIES REVITALIZATION FUNDS <br />IN THE AMOUNT OF $800,000 FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING <br />AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY <br />2026 GRANTS FUND FOR DISTRIBUTION TO THE PORTSMOUTH PORT AND <br />INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION. <br />” <br /> <br />26-99d: <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance accepting Hazardous Materials Emergency Response <br />Team Cost Recovery Funds in the amount of $2,696.68 from the Virginia <br />Department of Emergency Management and appropriating said funds in the FY <br />2026 Grants Fund for use by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency <br />Services. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) has reimbursed the <br />City of Portsmouth in the amount of $2,696.68 for HAZMAT Response Cost Recovery <br />calls in its capacity as the Southside Regional HAZMAT Team Leader. <br /> <br /> The funds received enable Portsmouth to maintain a superior level of readiness <br />regarding equipment, training, and technical expertise in dealing with hazardous <br />materials, as required by VDEM. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> These funds are instrumental in enabling the response capabilities of the <br />Southside Regional Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> No local match is required as a condition of the funding. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance.
