LOUISE LUCAS <br />DRIVE”. <br /> <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Hugel, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Tillage, Whitaker, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- City Manager’s Report - <br /> <br />24 - 138 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting Child and Adult Care Food Program <br />funding in the amount of $359,828.36 from the US Department of Agriculture via the <br />Virginia Department of Education and appropriating said amount in the FY 2024 <br />Grants Fund for use by the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide supper <br />and snacks to children after school. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> For over 39 years, the City of Portsmouth has received grant funding from the US <br />Department of Agriculture through the Virginia Department of Education for the Child and <br />Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The grant is administered by the Department of <br />Parks & Recreation. <br /> <br /> This year the program includes four (4) Recreation Centers, School House <br />Recreation programs, Faith-based sites, and additional school and Portsmouth <br /> <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority locations from September 5, 2023,through June <br />14, 2024. <br /> <br /> The program provides supper and snacks to children after school. <br /> <br /> The Department of Parks & Recreation partners with Portsmouth Public Schools <br />Food Services Division to provide the meals for the above-mentioned period. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The CACFP 2023-2024 program includes 35 service sites. <br /> <br /> As of March 30, 2024, the City has served 52,539 suppers and 43,659 snacks. <br /> <br /> <br /> It is estimatedthat the program will serve an additional 22,904 suppers and 15,634 <br />snacks. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> <br /> There is no City cash match required.
