$210,000 for the location stud)- and design of the new Naval Museum and award of contract.

"As part of our continuing revitalization program for downtown, you have identified a vet'
key element to the success of our effort -- a new Naval Museum.

In ~his regard, my staff selected an eminently qualified architectural firm, E. Verner
Johnson and Assoziates, to assist us in locating a site for the new museum and to exhibition
areas. A selection committee reviewed twenty-eight submittals from firms across the country
and interviewed five. This firm has vast experience in museum design and layout. They excel
in participatory exhibits, and the committee felt that they have precisely the background that
we need. E. Verner Johnson and Associates will also select a local architect familiar with
unique topographical problems of our area, to assist them with the project.

I, therefore, recommend that City Council award the contract to E. Verner Johnson and
Associates and appropriate $210,000 for the location study and design of the new Naval Museum. J
