February 28, 2023 <br /> <br /> <br /> An estimated additional $221,000 will be needed to complete the project. <br /> <br /> The Foundation has secured the additional $221,000 from other donors and now <br />desires to provide the funding to the City. <br /> <br /> The purpose of the proposed ordinance is to appropriate the additional $221,000 <br />so that the project can be completed. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The Bodyworks exhibit at the Children’s Museum focuses on health and wellness <br />and the science of how the body works, and teaches children why physical activity is <br />important. <br /> <br /> The project involves the complete renovation and expansion of the original <br />Bodyworks exhibit on the first floor of the museum. <br /> <br /> The mission of the Children’s Museum of Virginia is to encourage imagination and <br />a lifelong love of learning by providing fun, dynamic, interactive and educational exhibits, <br />activities, and programs. This property consists <br />of approximately 905 acres and serves as part of the watershed that protects the City’s <br /> <br />reservoir lakes. <br /> <br /> Suffolk Benton, LLC is developing a distribution center on adjacent property at 271 <br /> <br />Benton Road <br /> <br /> Suffolk Benton, LLC has requested that the City of Portsmouth grant a private <br />drainage easement encumbering approximately forty-five hundredths of an acre of the <br /> <br />City’s property at 1227 Holland Road. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The Department of Public Utilities manages the City’s Suffolk lakes and watershed <br />properties. Public Utilities has reviewed the easement request and determined that <br /> <br />granting the easement would not have a negative impact on the City’s watershed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
