September 14, 2021 <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Battle, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING FEDERAL ASSET FORFEITURE FUNDS IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $4,823.15 RECEIVED FROM THE UNITED STATES DRUG <br />ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE <br />FY 2022 SHERIFF’S ASSET FORFEITURE FUND FOR USE BY THE PORTSMOUTH <br />SHERIFF’S OFFICE.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />21 - 267 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $105,689.97 of Telephone <br />Commission Revenue in the FY 2022 General Fund Operating Budget for use by <br />the Sheriff’s Office. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office receives a commission from the Inmate Telephone <br /> <br />System. This funding helps offset the Sheriff's Office General Fund Budget. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The funding allows the Sheriff's Office to supplement its General Fund Operating <br /> <br />Budget. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> The Sheriff’s FY 2022 Operating Budget will increase by the said amount. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br /> <br /> <br /> Adoption of the Ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The Finance Department will complete the necessary budget adjustments as <br /> <br />provided by the Sheriff’s Office. <br /> <br />1. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, asked for the income and expense report on <br />how funds are being spent. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $105,689.97 OF TELEPHONE COMMISSION <br />REVENUE IN THE FY 2022 GENERAL FUND OPERATING BUDGET FOR USE BY <br />THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />21 - 268 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept $25,856.06 received via the Circuit <br />and General District Courts and to appropriate said amount in the FY 2022 General <br />Fund Budget for use by the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office to support the Training <br />Academy. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office receives fees collected by the Circuit Court and <br />General District Court for use in connection with its Training Academy, pursuant to State <br /> <br />Code Section 9.1-106. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The funding allows the Sheriff's Office to purchase needed items to support its <br />Training Academy. These funds are also used to pay the stormwater fees and other <br /> <br />maintenance costs for the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
