Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, asked for the income and expense report on <br />how funds are being spent. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING AN ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $167,818.18 FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br />AGENCY AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2022 GRANTS FUND <br />FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES <br />TO IMPROVE EQUIPMENT.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />21 - 266 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds in the <br />amount of $4,823.15 received from the United States Drug Enforcement <br />Administration and appropriating said amount in the FY 2022 Sheriff’s Asset <br />Forfeiture Fund for use by the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office receives Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds from the <br /> <br />DEA. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The funds allow the Sheriff's Office to purchase law enforcement equipment, <br />donate funds to the Drug Court, make improvements to the Jail, purchase computer <br />equipment, purchase anti-drug coloring books and crayons for school kids, and other <br /> <br />items necessary within the guidelines set forth in the DOJ Equitable Sharing Guide. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> No local match is required as a condition of the funding. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> The Sheriff or his designee will provide asset forfeiture management and oversight. <br /> <br />1.
