These funding opportunities are used to enhance overall preparedness <br />and response capabilities for the full range of hazards. <br /> <br /> The Homeland Security Program provides funding to create and maintain special <br />operations teams throughout the state, such as Hazardous Materials and Technical <br />Rescue. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The Virginia Department of Emergency Management awarded the Southside <br />Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team (SRHMRT) with a grant totaling <br />$62,108.00 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. <br /> <br /> The Southside Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team (SRHMRT) is <br />comprised of resources from the following four (4) jurisdictions: Portsmouth, Chesapeake, <br />Norfolk, and Virginia Beach. Portsmouth has a long-standing agreement to serve as the <br />lead-agency for SRHMRT. <br /> <br /> Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services (PFRES) is allotted $41,500.00 <br />of the $62,108.00. <br /> <br /> The (FY 2020) 2019 SHSP funds will be used to provide new equipment and <br />update current equipment to support the ongoing needs of the PFRES’s Hazardous <br />Materials Response Team. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> The City is not required to provide a cash or in-kind match. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
