November 12, 2019 <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $24,148 OF TELEPHONE COMMISSION <br />REVENUE IN THE FY 2020 GENERAL FUND OPERATING BUDGET FOR USE BY <br />THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />19 - 406 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds in the <br />amount of $85,666.45, of which $69,020.26 is from the U.S. Drug Enforcement <br />Administration and $16,646.19 is from the Division of Customs and Border Patrol <br />of the Homeland Security Department, and appropriating said amount in the FY <br />2020 Sheriff’s Asset Forfeiture Fund for use by the Sheriff’s Office. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> City Council adopted the FY 2020 Operating Budget on May 14, 2019. <br /> <br /> <br /> The Asset Forfeiture Fund is part of that budget. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The Sheriff’s Office received $69,020.26 in revenue in Federal Asset Forfeiture <br />Funds from <br />the DEA. <br /> <br /> The appropriation allows the Sheriff’s Office to purchase law enforcement <br />equipment, donate funds to Drug Court, purchase computer equipment, purchase anti- <br />drug coloring books and crayons for school kids, and other items necessary within the <br />guidelines set forth in the Equitable Sharing Guide. <br /> <br /> The Sheriff’s Office received $16,646.19 in revenue in Federal Asset Forfeiture <br />Funds from the Division of Customs and Border Patrol of Homeland Security. <br /> <br /> The appropriation allows the Sheriff’s Office to purchase law enforcement <br />equipment, and purchase computer equipment and other necessary items within the <br />guidelines set forth in the Equitable Sharing Guide. <br /> <br /> The following table shows the impact of the proposed additional revenue on the <br />Sheriff’s account lines in the FY 2020 Asset Forfeiture Fund: <br /> <br />Additional <br /> Current FY 2020 FY 2019-2020 <br />FY 2019-2020 Appropriation Revised <br />Account Line Appropriation Amount Appropriation <br />Supp – Other $20,427.69 $45,000.45 $65,428.14 <br />Training 16,809.67 20,666 37,475.67 <br />Noncap – Com 2,752.85 20,000 22,752.85 <br />Total $39,990.21 $85,666.45 $125,656.66 <br /> <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> <br /> The Asset Forfeiture Fund will increase by the said amount. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br /> <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> The Finance Department will complete the necessary budget adjustments. <br /> <br /> <br />1.
