398 <br /> <br />Augusn 12, 1986 <br /> <br /> At a regular meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday, August 12, 1986, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />James I¥. Holley, III, Jack P. Barnes, E. 5. Corprew, Jr., J. Robert Gray, L. Louise <br />Lucas, J. Herbert Simpson, Gloria O. Webb, George L. Hanbury, City Manager, Steven <br />Lieberman, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Rev. Richard W. L6vingood, Pastor of Cradock Presbyterian Church, opened the meeting with <br />prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Councilman Corprew stated that in the minutes of July 22, 1986, on Item 86-274, his <br />negative vote was not a vote against the thirJ ambulance, but one of disagreement to limiting <br />us in the purchasing of only one ambulance, but one to establish a plan where we.could work <br />to increase the number of ambulances t~ whatever is needed. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas that the minutes of the called.meeting of <br />Jflly 22, 1~86; minutes.or,the regular meeting of July 22, 1986 be corrected to reflect the <br />on the Consent Agenda, Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley; Nays: None <br />minutes of the called meeting of July 24, 1986; and minutes of the called meeting of July 28, <br />1986, and to be approved ms corrected, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 86-28S Mayor Holley presented Certificates <br />the Beautification and Clean Community Commission; <br />Cities Commission, for services rendered. <br /> <br />of Appreciation to Mrs. Mary Westfall of <br />Gregory M. Pomije of the Mayor's Sister <br /> <br /> 86-286(a) On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the following resolution <br />was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1986, AS "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" IN <br />PORTSMOUTH AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF THIS CITY TO SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATE <br />IN THE "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" PROJECT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Town Watch Association is sponsoring a coast~to coast~mommflnlty <br />crime prevention project on the evening of August 12, 1986 called "National Night Out"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens in Portsmouth be aware of <br />crime prevention programs and the positive impact that their participation <br />crime in our neighborhoods; and <br /> <br />the importance of <br />can have on reducin <br /> <br />with <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />hundreds <br /> <br />"National Night Out" provides an opportunity for Portsmouth to join together <br />of other communities across the country in a cooperative crime prevention effort <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, neighborhood spirit and cooperation <br />project and is also the key ingredient in helping <br />crime. <br /> <br />is the theme of the "National Night Out" <br />the Portsmouth Police Department to fight <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth does hereby <br />call upon the citizens of this City to join the Portsmouth Police and the National Town Watch <br />Association in supporting and participating mn the "National Night Out" on August 12, 1986. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council does hereby designate Tuesday, August 12, 1986, <br />as "National Night Out" in Portsmouth, Virginma.
