Vision Principle: <br /> Sustainable <br />Neighborhoods, Enhanced Quality of Life, and Efficient Service Delivery. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Fire Department (PFD) has been awarded grant funding in the <br />amount of $90,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the U.S. <br />Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Virginia Department of Emergency <br />Management to provide support for the Southside Regional Hazardous Materials <br />Response Team (RHMRT). Portsmouth is the lead agency for the Southside RHMRT. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The 2016 SHSP Funds will be used to provide continuing support to the Southside <br />RHMRT. <br /> <br /> This funding is instrumental in developing hazardous materials response <br />capabilities for Portsmouth’s Hazardous Materials Response Team. <br /> <br /> PFD will purchase the necessary equipment needed to enhance hazardous <br />materials response capabilities for the RHMRT. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> The grant award amount is $90,000 of 2016 DHS-FEMA SHSP funds for the PFD. <br /> <br /> The city is not required to provide a cash or in-kind match. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance.
