October 25, 2016 <br /> <br />16-344(a): <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE CITY’S 2017 GENERAL ASSEMBLY <br />LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />the Virginia General Assembly deals with a broad range of issues that <br />affect local government both directly and indirectly; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> the City of Portsmouth has certain concerns that deal with both <br />Portsmouth specifically and local governments in general; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />these concerns need to be made known to Portsmouth's General <br />Assembly delegation so that they may be transmitted for consideration by the Legislature. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED <br /> by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that it hereby endorses the positions listed on Exhibit A hereto for inclusion in <br />the Legislative Package for the 2017 General Assembly session. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED <br /> that the City Manager is directed to provide a copy <br />of this Resolution and the 2017 Legislative Package to each member of the City’s General <br />Assembly delegation. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED <br /> that the City Manager and/or her designee(s) are <br />hereby authorized and directed to provide necessary input and clarification during the <br />2017 Virginia General Assembly session and to carry out other activities as needed to <br />assist in attaining the goals and objectives contained in the City’s 2017 Legislative <br /> <br />Package.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, asked that City Council add a resolution <br />to the Federal Legislative package petitioning Congress to change the Flood <br />Insurance Program prevision so that homeowners can pay flood insurance premiums <br />on a monthly basis. <br /> <br /> There was a consensus of City Council to have City Manager Patton look into the <br /> <br />above request and add it to the Federal Legislative Package for consideration by the <br />Delegation. <br /> <br />16-344(b): <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE CITY’S 2017 FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE <br />th <br />FOR THE 115 CONGRESS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />the United States Congress deals with a broad range of issues that <br />affect local government both directly and indirectly; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> the City of Portsmouth has certain concerns that deal with both <br />Portsmouth specifically and local governments in general; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />these concerns need to be made known to Portsmouth's <br />congressional delegation so that they may be transmitted for consideration by the Senate <br />and the House of Representatives. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
