February 09, 2016


As part of the annual budget process, an estimate of expected grant awards is
used to establish the grants budget for the subsequent fiscal year. Since the final FY
2015-16 grant award amounts were not known during the adoption of the FY2015-16
grants budget in ordinance 2015-29 on May 12, 2015, there are differences between
initial grant award estimates and final grant award amounts for FY2015-16. Based on
review of the actual budget and final grant award notifications from the state and federal
government, the School Board was awarded $35,952 more in funds than what was
originally estimated in the original grants budget in ordinance 2015-29.

The following tables reflect the quarterly and annual grant fund appropriation
changes:

Table 1 - 3rd Quarter FY16
Current Revised
CategoriesAppropriation Adjustments Appropriation
Instruction 3,637,461 137,363 3,774,824
Administration, Attendance, & Health 159,115 159,115
Pupil Transportation 51,852 51,852
Operation and Maintenance 31,250 31,250
Technology 475,061 475,061
Total Grants Fund 4,354,739 137,363 4,492,102

Table 2 – Total Annual Grant Appropriation FY16
Current Revised
CategoriesAppropriation Adjustments Appropriation
Instruction 14,583,178 137,363 14,720,541
Administration, Attendance, & Health 636,460 636,460
Pupil Transportation 207,406 207,406
Operation and Maintenance 125,000 125,000
Technology 1,900,245 1,900,245
Total Grants Fund 17,452,289 137,363 17,589,652

Financial Impact:

The appropriation of these funds will increase the Schools Grants Fund.

Recommended Action:

Adoption of the ordinance.
