Simpson, that the latter be tabled, and was adopted by unanimous vote (5~0). 87-30 - The following ordinance deferred at the regular meetin ~f February 10, 1987, was taken up and read: "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF A TEN FOOT ALLEY EAST OF PENINSULA AVENUE.' Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, that the be tabled, and was adopted by unanimous vote. 87-48 The following resolution deferred from the regular g of February 10, 1987, was taken up and read: 'A RESOLUTION APPOINTING PORTION OF FIFTH AVENUE STREET." VIEWERS FOR THE CLOSING OF A (JAMESTOWN AVENUE) NORTH OF ANN Motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Simpson, that the be tabled, and was adopted by unanimous vo~e (5-0[ . REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER 87-83 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of resolution appointing viewers for a closing of a portion of Churcl Boulevard. "Churchland Shopping' Center Associates has made application to zlose a portion of C~chta~d.Boulevard in order to provide for otential expansion of the existing shopping center. The notice of ~lication and request for appointment of viewers has been duly ~dvertised as required by law. As you are aware, we are presently in the process of receiving proposals for potential development of the existing Churchland High ~chool site across the street from the present shopping center. I would recommend deferral of the appointment of viewers this application to the Council meeting of June 9, 1987, in to evaluate the entire development of this area." Gordon Tayloe, Attorney, Central Fidelity Bank BUilding, representing Churchland Shopping Center Associates, was available answer any questions. On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the follo~ resolution was adopted, and by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR A CLOSING OF A PORTION OF CHURCHLAND BOULEVARD. WHEREAS, Churchland Shopping Center Associates has made appli- ion to vacate, close and discontinue the hereinafter described of Churchland Boulevard, and it appearing that notice of ~plication and request for appointment of viewers has been duly dvertised as required by law. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of 'ortsmouth, Virginia, that Richard D. Ottavio, Simon P. Arrington, ~obert McCurdy, James B. McGee and Richard Tweed be appointed viewe: that Emerson Smith and Howard L. Davis be appointed alternative ~iewers in the event that one of ~he preceding viewers fails to ~articipate, said viewers to view the hereinafter described portion ~f such street and to report to this Council in writing whether in :heir opinion any, and if any what, inconvenience would result from ~acating and closing the following:
