REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER -

87-134 Letter from the City Manager recommending adootion of
ordinance to appropriate $43,900 to execute the Army Corps of
ineers agreement for a report to study The feasibility of dredg-
ing Scott's Creek.

"The Army Corps of Engineers has completed the" '
Phase Stud)-" for the dredging of Scott's Creek and has determined
that the project warrants further study. The Corps' District
Engineer is prepared to recommend to Washington that the "Feasibil-
ity Phase Study" be authorized.

Prior ~o initiating this phase of the planning process the Arm
Corps of Engineers requires that the City express its commitment to
fund up to half of the study ($43,900 City share). With this com-
mitment, the District Engineer can forward our project to Washingto~
for their approval. Based upon the most recent Army Corps of
~ngineers' estimate, the cost to dredge the main channel to an 18'
dept wculd be $2,525,000 (60% Federal, 40% City). This estimate
does not include the cost to dredge the adjacent tributarie§ ($3.4
million @100% City).

I have discussed this project with Mr. Arden Pfeiffer of the
Scott's Creek Waterfront Con~ittee and his group is supportive of
this phase of the study. I, therefore, recommend an appropriation
in the amount of $43,~80 from the Capita] Improvement Program
(DFedging of 0utfalls~ and authorization to execute the Army Corps
of Engineers agreement for the Feasibility Study."
