October 14, 2014 Discussion: • The FY 14 JAG funds will be used to provide funding for replacement of a patrol equipment vehicle, technology initiatives and equipment that will improve the PPD's ability to respond to critical incidents within the City. • Additionally, funds will be used to support the Drug Court programs within the Circuit Court. Financial Impact: • The grant award amount is $76,595of DOJ -BJA JAG funds for the PPD. • The City does not have to provide any cash or in-kind match. • The City has no obligation once the grant has ended. Staff Recommends: • Adoption of an Ordinance to appropriate the $76,595 from the FY 14 DOJ -BJA JAG grant. Vision Principle: Change and New Directions; Efficient, Responsive Government. Next Steps Following Council Action: • The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $76,595 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE-BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2014-15 GRANTS FUND TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT AND TO SUPPORT THE CIRCUIT COURT DRUG COURT PROGRAM." Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright Nays: None 14 - 389 -Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Drainage Easement to the City of Suffolk along a portion of Pruden Boulevard. Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government. Background: • The City owns over 3,300 acres of property in the City of Suffolk. This property contains our four lakes, water treatment plant, and adjacent watershed. • A portion of the property containing and surrounding Lake Meade abuts US460 Business/Pruden Boulevard near Downtown Suffolk. Discussion: • The City of Suffolk needs to replace a culvert under Pruden Boulevard in order to improve drainage and alleviate flooding problems. • The City of Suffolk has requested donation of a variable width permanent drainage easement on our property totaling approximately 0.175 acres. Financial impact: • No City funds are involved. Recommended Action: • Adoption of the resolution. Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government.
