October 14, 2014 <br />Discussion: <br />• The FY 14 JAG funds will be used to provide funding for replacement of a patrol <br />equipment vehicle, technology initiatives and equipment that will improve the PPD's <br />ability to respond to critical incidents within the City. <br />• Additionally, funds will be used to support the Drug Court programs within the <br />Circuit Court. <br />Financial Impact: <br />• The grant award amount is $76,595of DOJ -BJA JAG funds for the PPD. <br />• The City does not have to provide any cash or in-kind match. <br />• The City has no obligation once the grant has ended. <br />Staff Recommends: <br />• Adoption of an Ordinance to appropriate the $76,595 from the FY 14 DOJ -BJA <br />JAG grant. Vision Principle: Change and New Directions; Efficient, Responsive <br />Government. <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />• The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br />Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $76,595 FROM THE <br />U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE-BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2014-15 GRANTS FUND TO PURCHASE <br />EQUIPMENT AND TO SUPPORT THE CIRCUIT COURT DRUG COURT PROGRAM." <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright <br />Nays: None <br />14 - 389 -Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a <br />Drainage Easement to the City of Suffolk along a portion of Pruden Boulevard. <br />Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government. <br />Background: <br />• The City owns over 3,300 acres of property in the City of Suffolk. This property <br />contains our four lakes, water treatment plant, and adjacent watershed. <br />• A portion of the property containing and surrounding Lake Meade abuts US460 <br />Business/Pruden Boulevard near Downtown Suffolk. <br />Discussion: <br />• The City of Suffolk needs to replace a culvert under Pruden Boulevard in order to <br />improve drainage and alleviate flooding problems. <br />• The City of Suffolk has requested donation of a variable width permanent <br />drainage easement on our property totaling approximately 0.175 acres. <br />Financial impact: <br />• No City funds are involved. <br />Recommended Action: <br />• Adoption of the resolution.
