June 13,2000 <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONVEY A SMALL <br />PARCEL OF THE COTTAGE PLACE PARK TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF <br />VIRGINIA, ALONG WITH A TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION EASEMENT. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City <br />Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to convey to the Commonwealth of Virginia in <br />fee simple 0.0001 acre, more or less, of land which is a portion of Cottage Place Park, <br />along with 0.0002 acre, more or less, of said park for use as a temporary construction <br />easement, said conveyances being for the purpose of the construction and <br />improvement of Turnpike Road in the area of its intersection with County Street." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />00 - 133 - Board and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />00 - 134 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Councilman Benn recognized OpSail 2000 and thanked the City Manager and staff <br />for their hard work. <br /> <br />Councilman Pitts spoke on sound system. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody recognized Hodges Manor Civic League for coming up with idea <br />for Properly Identify Your Property Month. <br /> <br />Councilman Whitehurst spoke on June 30th and July 1st events for Ambassador <br />Bismarck Myrick. <br /> <br />Councilman Robinett announced the Oath of Office Ceremony on June 29, 2000 at 5 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />00 - 135 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, expressed gratitude to City Council <br /> members and others following the general election campaign. <br /> <br />Richard C. Journee III, 309 Thelmar Lane, President of Retired Fire and Police <br />Officers of Portsmouth, thanked Council and City Manager for consideration of <br />health insurance concerns. <br /> <br />3. Joseph Preziotti, Jr., 527 High Street, Chairman, Clean Community Commission, <br /> presented information on Clean the Bay Day. <br /> <br /> <br />
