September 10, 2013 <br />- New Business - <br />13 - 380 -Boards and Commissions <br />There were no appointments. <br />13 - 381 -Items Submitted by Council Members <br />- Mayor Wright gave an update on his trip to Portsmouth, Rhode Island to celebrate <br />their 375t" Anniversary. <br />- Ms. Psimas informed citizens of the following events: <br />• Free tours of the Coast Guard Eagle that will be docked at High Street Landing <br />the weekend of September 13-15. <br />• Saturday, September 21St, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame will be free to all <br />Portsmouth residents. <br />- Mr. Moody gave an update on the Community Day Rally for the community <br />recreation center at the old Truxton school site. <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Cherry, to add an item to the agenda <br />and was adopted by the following vote: <br />Ayes: Cherry, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Wright <br />Nays: Edmonds, Randall <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to direct Staff as part of the <br />2014-15 budget process to include a plan implementing the recommendations of the <br />Parks and Recreation Master Plan Study. <br />1. James Overton, 315 Aster Avenue, asked that City Council rescind the motion until <br />all citizens have had an opportunity to speak on this item. <br />2. Chester Benton, 2517 Portsmouth Boulevard, spoke in support of a recreational <br />center in Truxton. <br />3. Elvira Johnson, 3313 Armistead Drive, spoke in support of a recreational center in <br />Truxton. <br />4. Shawn Birdin, 503 Jefferson Street, spoke in support of a recreational center in <br />Truxton. <br />5. Erin Carter, 5222 Forrest Dale Drive, spoke in support of a recreational center in <br />Truxton. <br />6. Barry Randall, 604 Edwards Street, spoke in support of a recreational center in <br />Truxton. <br />7. Kintrell Devin, 515 Water Lilly Road, spoke on the importance of compromise and <br />education in the City. <br />8. Randolph Hargrove, 1445 Lake Forest Drive, spoke in support of a recreational <br />center in Truxton. <br />9. Chris Williams, 1441 Welcome Road, spoke in support of a recreational center in <br />Truxton. <br />10. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, asked that City Council table this issue <br />and bring a fully considered motion to the public for comment. <br />
