May 12, 1987 <br /> <br />- REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER <br /> <br /> 87-214 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to: <br /> <br />a.) <br /> <br />Amend Sections 35-224(E) and (F); 35-225; 35-226; and <br />35-227 pertaining to real estate tax exemption for <br />cernaln elderly and permanently disabled people. <br /> <br />b.) Amend Section 38-77 (a) and (f) of the Code of the City <br /> of POrtsmouth pertaining to charges for sewer se~rvice. <br /> <br />c.) Amend Sections 24-100 (.bi pertaining to fees for Sleepy <br /> Hole Golf Course. <br /> <br />d.) Amend Section 7-30 pertaining no schedule of prices and <br /> charges for work for cemetery grave openings. <br /> <br />e.) Establish the pay ranges and classifications of all <br /> employees. <br /> <br /> "The ordinances relating no adoption of the Operating Budget <br />for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1987 are enclosed in accordan <br />with my pre~ious letter to you which I submitted along with the <br />approved on nhe first reading an your May 6, 1987 meeting. <br /> <br />%he item pertaining to tax relief for certain elderly and <br />~ermanently disabled persons includes language to extend the dead- <br /> ine for application to June 30th so that the criteria adopted will <br />be in effect for the start of the fiscal year, July 1st. <br /> <br /> As regards the planning fees mentioned previously, I plan to <br />put these on the agenda in June as they require consideration by <br />the Plannmng Commission prior to City Council s action. <br /> <br /> The enclosed ordinances are recommended for your favorable <br />consideration and adopnion." <br /> <br /> a.) On monion of Mr. Sir~pson and seconded by Mr. Gray the <br />following ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and by <br />the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 35-224[E) and (F); 25-225; <br /> 35-226 AND 35-227 PERTAINING TOi REAL ESTAT~ EAX EXEMPTION <br /> FOR CERTAIN ELDERLY AND PERMANENTLY DISABLED PEOPLE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> b.) On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Gray, the <br />following ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and <br />the following vote: <br /> <br />by <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 38-77 (a) and (f) OF THE <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, PERTAINING TO <br />CHARGES FOR SEWER SERVICE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> c.)
