3!5 <br /> <br />May 12, 1987 <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and secended by Mr. Simpson, to restore to <br />Eastern Virginia Medical School's budget $4,327.00 for full funding, <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Webb, the ordinance <br />was adopted as amended, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. ~ebb and seconded by Mr. Ba~nes~ funding for <br />STOP was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, <br />Nays: None <br />Abstaznzng: Lucas <br /> <br />Corprew, Gray, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br /> <br />Councilperson Lucas abstained due to he~ position with STOP. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, to amend the <br />funding for HER, ~o a one time grant for $25,000.00, and was adopte, <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, <br /> Nays: None <br />Abstaining: Webb <br /> <br />Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Holley <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Webb, abstained due to her position on the HER Boar <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to suspend the <br />rules for citizen to speak, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Bill Watson, representing Boy Scout Troup 233, expressed <br />their appreciation to Council <br /> <br /> 87-206 The following ordinance approved on first reading at <br />the special meeting of May 6, 1987, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO RE-ENACT ORDINANCE NO. 1985-39 AS <br />RE-ENACTED BY ORDINANCE NO. 1986-44 IMPOSING AND <br />LEVYING TAXES FOR EACH FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1st <br />AND ENDING JUNE 30th, UNLESS OTHERWISE CHANGED BY COUNCIL <br />ON REAL ESTATE, TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND <br />MACHINERY AND TOOLS WITHIN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE <br />SUPPORT OF GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS AND THE PUBLIC <br />FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ON <br />THE PUBLIC DEBT." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the <br />ordinance was adopted on final reading, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Luacs, Simpson, Webb, HolleTM <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-207 The following ordinance approved on first reading at <br />the special meeting of May 6, 1987, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 20-51; 20-52; 20-53; AND <br />20-SS OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, PERTAINING TO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSE <br />TAXES." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Gray, the <br />ordinance was adopted on final reading, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holle' <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
