July 28, 1987 WHEREAS, this Council is cognizant of the conditions that are imposed by the provisions of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, including those prohibiting discrimination because of race, age, color, creed, sex or national origin; and WHEREAS, in the judgement of this Council it is in the interes of the City and its inhabitants that the said Amendment be approved NOW, tHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Amendment No. 7 to Northside Redevelopment Project, considered, it is hereby found: the Redevelopment Plan for the having been duly reviewed and (a) That the objectives of the Northside Redevelopment Project, Portsmouth, Virginia, can be better achieved by the adoption of said Amendment to the Plan. (b) That Amendment No. 7 to the Plan for the project area meets the requirements of a plan £or a redevelopment project pursuant to Chapter 1 of Title 36 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. 2. That Amendment No. 7 to the Northside Redevelopmen~ Plan for the Northside Redevelopment Project, having been duly reviewed and considered, is hereby approved and the City Clerk is hereby directed to file a copy of said Amendment with the minutes of this meeting. Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Nays: None Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Webb, that the City Manager look into the possibility of considering making the entire City of Portsmouth a Conservation Area, and was adopted by unanimous vote. 87-334 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a resolution approving Amendment No. 16 to the Crawford Conservation and Redevelopment Plan for the Crawford Urban Renewal Project. See letter Item No, 87-328 On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Gray, the follow- ing resolution was'adopted, and by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT NO. 16 TO CONSERVATION AND REDEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR THE URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT. THE CRAWFORD CRAWFORD WHEREAS, this Council by resolution adopted August 1, 1967, approved a Conservation and Redevelopment Plan for the Crawford Urban Renewal Project, Portsmouth, Virginia (Plan); and WHEREAS, there has been presented to this body for considera- tion and approval, a copy of an amended Plan for the project area which Plan consists o£ 15 pages and 4 exhibits; and WHEREAS, Amendment No. 16 proposes to clarify the requiremen' of observance of all applicable City ordinances, make other technical corrections, designates additional property as "To Be Acquired"~ and extends the Olde Towne South Conservati6n Area's southern boundary to include those properLieS on the south side of South Street; and WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority . ahs resolved that this Amendment is in the best interest of the City's renewal effort; and
