August 11, 1987 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the expansmon and development of Harper Road is deem- <br />ed by the Council of the City of Portsmouth to be essential to <br />future development in the Pinners Point area of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Harper Road qualifies for industrial access funds <br />distributed by the State Department of Transportation. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City'of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby endorses an application to the State <br />Department of Transportation for industrial access road funds ~n <br />the amount of $442,500.00 for reconstruction of Harper Road. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby <br />is, directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the State <br />Department of Transportation." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew~ Gray~ Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-354 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a resolution requesting the School Board of the City of Portsmouth <br />to provide a program on instruction on Acquired Immunodeficiency <br />Syndrome. <br /> <br /> "As-'requested by City Council, attached <br />aging the School Board to provide educat~on~_l <br />Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). <br /> <br />is a resolution encour <br />programs on Acquired <br /> <br />I recommend adoption of this resolution." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Gray, the followin <br />resolution was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH TO PROVIDE A PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION ON ACQUIRED <br />IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Acquired lmmunodeficiency Syndrome (AID~) has become <br />a national health problem; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, seven cases of AIDS have been identified in Portsmout <br />resulting in death of five individuals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, education of the citizens of the community is an <br />essential factor in preventing this disease. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the School Board of the City of Ports- <br />mouth is hereby requested to provide a program of instruction on <br />Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby <br />is, directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Chairman <br />of the School Board and Superintendent of the Portsmouth Public <br />Schools.' <br /> <br />.Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-355 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a motion to transfer $35,815 from the Grants Contingency Account to <br />continue the Victim Witness tssistance Program. <br /> <br /> "I have recently been notified by Mr. Ron Bell, Division <br />Director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services, that the <br />City has been awarded a grant to continue the Victim Witness <br />Assistance Program. <br /> <br /> <br />
