473 <br /> <br />October 13, 1987 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Port Authority is a political sub- <br />division of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council deems this use to be in the best <br />interest of the City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he hereby <br />is, authorized to convey to the Virginia Port Authority the <br />following described parcels of land, to-wit: <br /> <br /> Ail those certain pieces or parcels of land, <br />totaling 1.373 acres, being described according <br />to thy present street numbering system of the <br />City of Portsmouth as 153, 173, 179, 184, 182, <br />174, 172, 170, 160, 158, 156, 154, and 150 <br />Industrial Avenue; and 315, 317, 323, and 325 <br />Lee Avenue; and an unnumbered parcel being <br />designated as Map Parcel 0098-0280 on the City <br />Assessor's records. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he <br />hereby is, authorized to sign such deeds and other documents as <br />may be necessary to complete this transaction." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holl <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER - <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs Webb, that Item # <br />449 be moved to the beginning of the City Manager Reports. <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr.°Simpson <br />to hear Item ~ · <br /> ~42.~ prior to Item #449, and was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 87-442 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of an ordinance closing Paul Jones Avenue and an adjacent ten <br />foot alley. <br /> <br /> "Swimming Point Associates has made application to close <br />Paul Jo~s Avenue from Washington Street to the Elizabeth River <br />and a portion of a ten foot alley extending south from Paul Jones <br />Avenue approximately 105' The closure of a second alley extend- <br />ing east from Washington Street was also included in the original <br />application. However, the applicant has withdrawn this portion of <br />the request. <br /> <br /> The viewers report and the Planning Commission both recommend <br />approval of the application for closure of Paul Jones Avenue and <br />a portion of one of the ten foot alleys. <br /> <br /> The City will reserve a 12' easement for storm drainage along <br />the southern boundary of Paul Jones Avenue. <br /> <br /> I recommend approval of the ordinance closing Paul Jones <br />Avenue and a portion of the ten foot alley." <br /> <br /> Roger Newill, 120 Atlantic Street, Norfolk, representing <br />Swimming Point Associates, spoke in support of the closing. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the following <br />ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and by 'the~f~~ .~ <br />following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE CLOSING PAUL JONES AVENUE AND AN ADJACENT <br />TEN FOOT ALLEY." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray; Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holl <br />Nay-s: None <br /> <br /> <br />
