McDaniel, 108.5 <br />feet north from intersection; then turning west to <br />continuing across Amelia Avenue to the property <br />owned by Timothy Rawls Stephenson, tax plat 302, <br />map 71, lot 28; turnihg south along plat of <br />Stephenson 108.5 feet to NW corne~ of intersection <br />of Griffin and Amelia Street to point of beginning." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-458 --Letter f.rom the City Manager~recommending adoption <br />of a motion to transfer $68,030 from the Gra~n{s Contingency <br />Account for the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program, <br />Inc., for senior citizens services. <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to inform you that the contract with the <br />Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program, Inc. has been <br />renewed. This contract provides $68,030 o~ Title ~I~ Older <br />Americans Act funds to Portsmouth for senior citizens services. <br /> <br /> We have exceeded last year's goals in providing home health <br />care, homemaker and personal care, transportation and dental <br />services to seniors. A total of 680 people w~re served at least <br />once, over 3,288 hours of service were logged, and 9,946 miles of <br />transportation were provided. <br /> <br /> The sum of S80,035 represents the total program cost for the <br />period of October 1, 1987 through September 30, 1988. Federal <br />funds ($68,030) comprise 85% of the program and $12,005 of inkind <br />services represents the 15% required local match. <br /> <br /> I recommend the approval of the program and the transfer of <br />$68,030 from the Grants Contingency Account to support the grant. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Simpson, that <br />authorization be granted to transfer S68,030 from the Grants <br />Contingency Account, as-requeste~, and was adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> 87~459 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion to transfer $24,558 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account for the Urban Park & Recreation Recovery Program. <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to inform you that the National Park Service <br />has approved the City of Portsmouth's application for a grant <br />under the Urban Park & Recreation Recovery (UPARR) Program. <br /> <br /> This gra~t in the amount of $24,558 is to enable the City to <br />conduct an-assessment of its current recreation services and to <br />plan improvements in the delivery and effectiveness of these <br />services in terms of community needs. <br /> <br /> Virginia Commonwealth University as been selected through the <br />bid process to work as a consultant for this planning g~ant. In <br />addition, the staff of the National Park-Service will be working <br />closely wfth-our staff throughout the implementation of this <br />assessment. <br /> <br /> <br />
