Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley Nays: None 87-458 --Letter f.rom the City Manager~recommending adoption of a motion to transfer $68,030 from the Gra~n{s Contingency Account for the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program, Inc., for senior citizens services. "I am pleased to inform you that the contract with the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program, Inc. has been renewed. This contract provides $68,030 o~ Title ~I~ Older Americans Act funds to Portsmouth for senior citizens services. We have exceeded last year's goals in providing home health care, homemaker and personal care, transportation and dental services to seniors. A total of 680 people w~re served at least once, over 3,288 hours of service were logged, and 9,946 miles of transportation were provided. The sum of S80,035 represents the total program cost for the period of October 1, 1987 through September 30, 1988. Federal funds ($68,030) comprise 85% of the program and $12,005 of inkind services represents the 15% required local match. I recommend the approval of the program and the transfer of $68,030 from the Grants Contingency Account to support the grant. Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Simpson, that authorization be granted to transfer S68,030 from the Grants Contingency Account, as-requeste~, and was adopted by unanimous vote. 87~459 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a motion to transfer $24,558 from the Grants Contingency Account for the Urban Park & Recreation Recovery Program. "I am pleased to inform you that the National Park Service has approved the City of Portsmouth's application for a grant under the Urban Park & Recreation Recovery (UPARR) Program. This gra~t in the amount of $24,558 is to enable the City to conduct an-assessment of its current recreation services and to plan improvements in the delivery and effectiveness of these services in terms of community needs. Virginia Commonwealth University as been selected through the bid process to work as a consultant for this planning g~ant. In addition, the staff of the National Park-Service will be working closely wfth-our staff throughout the implementation of this assessment.
