5!7 <br /> <br />November 24, 1987 <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE, CODE OF THE CIT¥~ OF-PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRCINI~, 1973, AS AMENDED~, BY AMENDING SECTION 4-37 <br />THEREOF PERTAINING TO DOG 5ICENSES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Corprew, Gray~ Lucas, Webb, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-504 Letter from the Ci,ty Manager recommending adoption <br />of an Ordinance to close port~onsr of Maryland Avenue and <br />Chautauqua Avenue. <br /> <br /> "Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission has made <br />application to vacate por,tions of Maryland Avenue and Chautauqua <br />Avenue in connection with industrial development projects in that <br />area of the City. The viewers report and the Planning Commission <br />recommend a~proval of th is a~li~ation. <br /> The Maryland Avenue-closure lies in the center of ~he two <br />development parcels. This p?rtion remained open when M, aryland <br />Avenue, north and south of ~nis section, was closed in 1979· <br />The Chautausua Avenue closure involves-ten feet of the western <br />edge of the~right-0f-way between Commerce ,Avenue and ~the Seaboard <br />Coastline Railroad property. Closure of this Qortion would reduce <br />the existin~ right-of-way width of Chautauqua Avenue to seventy <br />feet. The need for this closure originated when the ~developer <br />discovered some building encroachments into the alle~y adjacent to <br />the~western edge of t~ne' ~ropertv. To ~revent limiting' ' ' access to <br />the alley, the developer shifte~ his site plan to allow for the <br />dedica%~on. ~f the necessary~and needed to widen the alley. Three <br />feet of property was dedi~cated ~to the City for this purpose. <br /> <br /> I r~co~mend adoption of the o~dinance closing portions of <br />Maryland Avenue and Chautauqua A~enue." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the following <br />ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING PORTIONS OF MARYLAND.
