53.5 December ~i987 In light of these changes made by the state, I concur with the request that the Council favorably consider the appropriation of $850,000 as a supplement to the School Operation Fund for the assurance of th'e Sup~rinte~de~H~of Schools that this appropriatior will be used only for special education tuition payments. further recommend that these funds be included-i~ future operatinc budget ~equests made by the School Board and I will be contacting- the Superintendent to insure that this is accompl±sh~d.? On motion of Mr. Corprew and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the following ordina-nce was approved on firs~ reading, and was adopte~ by unanimous vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $850,000 FROM THE SCHOOL OPERATING FUND F~R THE PURPOSE'O~:'PAYING TUITION COSTS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION'." ...... 87-526 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $1,624,000 from the Capital improvemen~t'Fund~to fund the-pu~chase~of' th~ l~nd-fo~' a new Churchland High SchoOl'and design of the school an~d related facilities.~ ...... "With the adoption of the 1987-92 Capital Improvement Program, approval was given to proceed with construction of a new high,school in Churchland. -The Planning Commission approved the proposed site adjacent.to C~dar Lane on November 3, 1987. The school Board~wflt conduct ~ public hearing on Monday, December 7, 1987 and take action ~egarding their request for City Council to issue:School bonds for' 1987~88' i~the amount of '$2,848,250. The A & E'work would include design of ths'-gchCol ~aci~ity, as well as the PIT gymnasium, football stadium and recreation master plan; IH'should be noted that the architect will.~o~ be authorized to proceed with the stadium design component until after ~ity Councit has had an~opportunity to review and consider the Frank Dg Lawrenc~'Stadium re-port. The City Manager requested modification Of the ordinance to reflect the amount of $892,000.
