Bell, 1500 Green Street, representin'g Beacon <br />Light Lodge ~34, spoke in opposition to taking over of the <br />property of the Beacon Light Lodge. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mrs.~ Webb, the <br />ordinance was adopte~ on final reading, and by the following <br />vote: ,, :~ <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray.,' Luca~, Simpson,, We~b, Hotley <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />- REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER - <br /> <br /> 87-525 Letter from the City Manager recommending <br />adoption of an ordinance to appropriate S850,000 in the School <br />Board Operating Fund for the purpose ~f paying tuition costs <br />for special education. <br /> <br /> "The Portsmouth School Board has adopted a resolution that <br />requests the City Council's consent to expend funds in excess <br />of their present budget. Eight hundred fifty thousand dollars <br />($850,000) is requested for the payment of special education <br />tuition which was not included in the School's Operating Budget <br />for the current fiscal year .... <br /> <br /> Administrative changes by the State Department of <br />Education have resulted in modifications to the payment~ of <br />special education tuition. In the past it~was the <br />responsibility of the school district where the child resided~ <br />to pay the tuition charges. This has now been modified so that <br />the responsibility for special education tuition payments rests <br />with the district where the special education is provided. The <br />tuition is 100% state reimbursed. <br /> <br /> <br />
