<br /> W~EREAS, 1-664 and the Western Freeway have been designed to
<br />accommod.ate the relocation of sa~d railroad within the~
<br />right-of-way of these highways;.!and ~:
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the relocation of said railroad during conStruction
<br />of 1-664 and the Western Freeway would result in substantial
<br />savings in the cost o~such relocation; and
<br />
<br /> W~EREAS, funds may:be made ~available to,the Commonwealth of
<br />Virginia,pursuant to the Surface!Transportation and Uniform
<br />Relocation Assistance Act administered by the United States
<br />Department of Transportation.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Portsmouth delegation to the
<br />General-Assembly of Virginia be, and they hereby are, ~equested to
<br />sponsor such legislation as may be necessary to designate the
<br />relocation of the Norfolk Southern Railroad in the Churchland area
<br />of the-City of Portsmouth into 1-664 and the Western Freeway as a
<br />priority project.

<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Portsmouth delegation to the
<br />General Assembly of Virginia be, and they hereby are, requested to
<br />sponsor such legislation as may be necessary to direct the
<br />Virginia Department of Transportation to seek funding for such
<br />relocation of the railroad from the U.S. Department of
<br />Transportation through-the Surf.ace Transp©rtation and Uniform
<br />Relocation Assistance Act or such other Federal funding as may be
<br />available .... -

<br /> BEFIT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the Ci-ty of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that Senator John Warner, Senator Paul
<br />Trible and Congressman Norman Sisisky be, and they hereby are,
<br />request, ed to take such action as may be appropriate to support the
<br />request for funding~for relocation of this'railroad~
<br />
<br /> BE-IT~FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereb~
<br />is, directed to forward a copy or_this resolution to Senator John
<br />Warner, Senator Paul Trible; Congressman Norman Sisisky, State
<br />Senator Johnny Joannou, Delegate William Moore, Delegate Kenneth
<br />Melvin and to the Mayo~s of the cities of Chesapeake and Suffolk."

<br />buses, tabled at the Council meeting of April 28, 1987, to be
<br />removed 5rom the table, and-was adopted by unanimous~vote.

<br /> On motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. 5ucas, the
<br />following ordinance was adopted on final reading; and.by the
<br />following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $525,000 FROM THE SCHOOL
<br />OPERATING FUND TO PURCHASE FIFTEEN SCHOOL BUSES."

<br /> -Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs.' Lucas, that
<br />authorization be granted to transfer $525,000 from the Emergency
<br />Budget Contingency Account to the School Operating Fund, and was
<br />adopted unanimous vote.
