March 8, 1988 "As a result of comments at an earlier council m~eting, an informal meeting of the Cemetery Committee was held 0n February 8, 1988, for the purpose of discussing some aspects .of ~the City's cemeteries. Designated hours will enh~h~e~ Oh~ ability to provide Security ih ~e~n~e%e,~.i'~ In addition, I have requested the Chief of Police to increase patrols in th'e ~ceme-terieS during .~he-op-en-~ ho~.si ~f v~'sita~tion. "On April 14} 1987, $1,104,~965~00< Was appropria~ted ,for improvements to P~rtCentre. Of this appropriation,~a Portion was earmarked for lanldscaping of ~the entrance way onc~ 'the infrastructure construction was substantially complete. This landscaping will'tie into the land'scap~ng currently underway at the downtown tunnel entrance. (See attach~.d map~, Bidswere received for Phase' I:on Februaryl 23, 1988. The bids were competitive and in line wit. h today's ~o~nStruetion costs (see Attachm~nt~ No. 1). The total~anticiPa~ted proj~ect cost (including contingencies, contract administration and inspeCtion) is calculated as follows: Construction Con%ract (VA Turf ,Management Assoc%)$33~83','00 Contingen-cies' ~'? < $13,~317~.00 Contract Administration & Inspection $ 1,500.00 TOTAL ANTICIPATED PROJECT COST $381~,200.00 The construction time for Port Centre Landscaping, Phase I, is 60 calendar days!~ The City Engineer recommends that a contract be awarded to the low bidder, Virginia Turf Management Associates, Inc. in the amount of $33,38~3.00 for the installat~ion of the : ' landscaping. As indicated above, no additional appropriation is necessary. I, ~therefore, concur and recommend award of a contract to the low bidder."
