April 26, 1988 <br /> <br /> 88-174 - Letter from the City Manager recommending <br />adoption of an ordinance recOmmending to close a portion of <br />Ballard Avenue. <br /> <br /> "The City of!Portsmouth has m~de application to close~.a <br />pOrtion of Ballard Avenue, <br /> <br /> The viewers preVioUsly appointed by CoUncil have <br />recommended approval~of the app'lication. The Planning <br />Commission concurs in this r~commendation~ ~ i <br /> <br /> I recommend adoption of the ordiDance closing a portion of <br />Ballard Avenue as requested by the applicant.~' <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />following ordinance was adopted on first and final reading and <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OFf BALLARD AVENUE." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Lucas, Simpson, ~ <br /> Williams, Webb <br /> Nays: None ~ ' ~ <br /> <br /> 88-175 - Letter from the city Manager recommending <br />adoption of ah'ordinan~ce recommending to close a portion of <br />Portland Street. ~ <br /> <br /> "The City of Portsmouth has made applicatiOn to close a <br />portion of POrtland Street. ~ ~ <br /> <br /> The viewers previously appointed by Council have <br />recommended approval of the application· The Planning <br />Commission concurs in this recommendation. <br /> <br /> I recommend adoption of the ordinance closing <br />Portland Street as requested by the applicant." <br /> <br />a portion of <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />following ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF PORTLAND STREET." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Lucas, SimPson, <br /> Williams, Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 88-176 - Letter from the CitY Manager recommending <br />adoption of an ordinance permitting deputy sheriff's to engage <br />in off-duty emplOyment. <br /> <br /> "Sheriff Gary W. Waters has requested the City Council to <br />approve an ordinance pertaining to the off-duty employment of <br />deputy Sheriffs. Under the provisions of the State's Law <br />Enforcement Liability Self-Insurance Plan, which is <br />administered by the Division of Risk Management of the <br />Department Of-General Services, certai-n off,duty employment by <br />deputy sheriffs Can be included in the liability coverage of <br />the plan. Deputy sheriffs are eligible for coverage by the <br />State plan only if the locality has enacted an ordinance <br />pursuant to Section 15.1-133,1 of the Stalte Code permitting the <br />off-duty employment. The City Attorney has drafted the <br />attached ordinance which is in accordance with the abov9 stated <br />section of the State Code. <br /> <br /> <br />
