June 14, 1988 WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is eligible to submit a grant application for funding for t~e Fiscal Year 1989 pursuant to the regulations governing the administration and use of such funds, and has reviewed and considered the regulations and applications covering administration and use of said funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by'the~Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that the Council does hereby endorse the Clean Community Program of the Beaut~ffcation and Clean Community Commission fore'the City Of~P~rtsmou~th,~ vi~inia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council for the City of Portsmouth authorizes the City Manager'tb ~ia~ Dudget,~ia~d apply for a Grant w~i~h, if appr~ed,~wiIl~De used tO fund said program and hereby requests the Uepa~tme~Of ~aste ~a~agement, Division of Litter Control and Recycling, to consider and approve the application and program, said p~ogram~b~ing in accord with the regulations governing the use and expenditure of such funds." Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Nays:None Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Williams 88-231 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a resolution authorizing the filing of an application in the amount of $750.00 with the Virginia Commission for the Arts. "The Director of the Portsmouth Museums has preDared an application tc receive a technical assistance grant in the amount of $750 from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The award of this grant will allow curatorial staff to attend a variety of training sessions and workshops regarding the organizational operation of exhibits which will enhance the professional development of our local curators. There I no local match requirement. Your approval of the attached resolOtion is required in order for the Commission to consider the grant submission." Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the following resolution was adopted, and by'the following vote: "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMITiAN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING TO THE VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS. ~ WHEREAS, the Council of the City of~Portsmouth, Virginia has created the Department of Museums to coordinate the City's cultural activities within the boundaries of the City; and WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission for the Arts provides fUnding to enhance local cUltural programs through technical assistance; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is eligible to submit grant aDplications for funding pursuant to regulations governing the administration and use of such funds.
