July 12, 1988 <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to transfer <br />the sum of $120,588 from the Grants Contingency Account and to <br />accept the award to the Portsmouth Health Department to renew <br />Perinatal Health Care Program for a fifth year, was approved on <br />first reading by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 88-270 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion accepting the award to continue the Victim Witness <br />Assistance Program through the Commonwealth's Attorney,s Office <br />and the transfer of $37,393 from the Grants-Contingency account to <br />operate the program. <br /> <br /> "I have recently been notified by Mr. Richard N. Harris, <br />Director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services, that <br />City has bee~ awarded a grant to,continue the Victim Witness <br />Assistance Program. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> This program, which is administered by the Commonwealth's <br />Attorney's Office, is an integral part of Portsmouth's criminal <br />justice system. Not only does it improve the efficiency and <br />effectiveness of the criminal justice process, but it also <br />Drovides direct aid for victims, comDensation, transportation, <br />escort services, parking, crisis intervention and counseling, <br />child care, referral services and educational presentations and <br />tours of Portsmouth's Court system. <br /> <br /> The grant award of $37,393 represents 100% federal funding <br />and no local match is required.
