Cancellation by either party ~,' <br />permitted with sixty (60) days notice. <br /> <br /> · ~ ~oncur'~ th~s~-terms and'~ondi~i'ons and recommend your <br />authorik'~tion of my execution of' a lease to be drawn b~ the City <br />Attorney." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Lucas ~nd ,se¢on~ed~ by Mr. Hawks, tke,~. <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A <br />LEASE AGREEMENT WITH VIRGINIA PORT AUTHORITY FOR 2.46 ACRES OF <br />PROPERTY ~ADJACENT TO THE NISSAN PRORERTY ON MARTIN LUTHER~ KING <br />FREEWAY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the~ City has recently ac~ui~red 2.46 acres~of~- <br />property adjacent to the Nissan property on Martin Luther K~ng <br />Freeway; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Virginia Port Authority ~as agreed to lease the <br />subject property for the purpose of. vehicle~ and equ~pmen~ <br />storage at the rate of $1,230.00 per month; and <br /> <br /> WH~EREAS, Virginia Port Autho~ity~aS f~rther agreed to '~ <br />clear and ~an~dscape the subject property pursuant to p~ans Zo be <br />appro~'ed' by the City;' and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2.09(c) of the Charter of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, provides that the City may convey an <br />interest in re~l property to the Co_~%mon~wealth of Virginia, or a <br />political subdivision thereof, Without'~dvertisement and, receipt <br />of bids; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Virginia Port Authori'ty is a political <br />subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia~ that the City Manager be, and hereby <br />is, authorized to enter into a lease agreement with Virginia <br />Port Authority for 2.46 acres of properny adjacent to the Nissan <br />property on Martin Luther King ~ree%~ay, pursuant to the terms~- ~ <br />and conditions set forth in this resolution." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpso~_ Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 88-289 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a resolution authorizing the City to apply for the Emergency <br />Home Repair ~Grant initiated by the Virginia Department of <br />Housing and Community Development. <br /> <br /> "The Virginia-Department'Of Housing ahd Community <br />Devel(~pmer[t ~as fn[tia~ed a ne~ program called the Emergency <br />Home Repair Gran~ Program. Funds for this program wilt ,be made <br />available through the Virginia Housing Partnership Fund. <br /> <br /> iThe~-Emergency Home Repair Grant ,Program enables non-profit <br />organizations including cities such as Portsmouth to issue, <br />grants to low income families to undertake repairs of an <br />emergenc~ nature to their homes~.' The State will provide $500 <br />per residential unit. City will~be~ ~equi~ed to match it on ~at~ <br />least a doiiar'for~ dOllar basis.-$1;000 Per unit will go a'long <br />way towards making housing occupied by Portsmouth's low income <br />families more habitable and safer. <br /> <br /> <br />
