August 9, 1988 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED b~ the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that it~hereby expresses its opposition to <br />the further~expansion or prolongation.of Craney Island as a <br />disposal area. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth hereby endorses the concept of House Joint Resolution <br />163 that alternatives to the _use~of Cr. ane~ Island as a disposal <br />area be developed and that its availability for development <br />purposes be expedited° <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESQLVED that the City Clerk.be, and she hereby <br />is, directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Virginia <br />Delegation to the United States Congress, the Govsrnor of <br />Virginia,~ the Portsmouth Delegation to th~ General Assembly of <br />Virginia,~ and the United States Army Corps of Engineers." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray~ Hawks, Lucas~ Simpson, Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 88-316 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion to accept an award from the Virginia .Fire Services <br />Board for the improvement of fire service operations and the <br />transfer of $99,168.01 from the Grants Contingency Account to <br />support the program. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, <br />of $99,168.01 from <br />program." <br /> <br /> "The 1988 Fire Program's Fund provides funds for improving <br />fire service operations. The Uirginia Fire Services Board takes <br />the position that firefighter safety is the first priority for <br />which funds distributed to localities saould be used. I am <br /> leased that the Virginia Fire Services Board has ~ra~ted the Cit~ <br />anaward of $99,168.01. Thi~ award will be used to improve fire <br />protection and services to tn.e cit'izens 0f Portsmouth as indicate~ <br />on the attached_listing. <br /> <br /> recommend approval of the project and transfer <br /> the Grants Contingency Account to support this <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Gray, to accept an <br />award from the Virginia Fire Services Board and to transfer <br />$99,168.01 from the Grants Contingency Account to support the <br />program~ was adopted, and by the following ~ote:~ <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 88-317 ~ Letter from the City Manager ~ecommendin~ adoption <br />of a motion for the Delinquent Tax Office t~ 'refund (without <br />interest) the following: <br /> <br /> Personal Property: <br /> <br />(t) $10.26 to Ann C.
