2'53 <br /> <br />November ~8, 1988 <br /> <br /> "OnOctober Il, 198~, the City Council, in accordance with <br />Section 30-19.04 of the Code'of Virginiai held a public hearing to <br />consider the application f~r exemption from taxes filed on behalf <br />of the~London House, Inc. for property located in the City of <br />Portsmouth and used by the applicant exclusively for charitable <br />and benevolent purposes on a non-profit basis, as set forth in <br />Section 58.1-3650 of the Code of Virgihia. <br /> <br /> The City Assessor has reviewed the application of the <br />organization in accordance with the requirements of law and is of <br />the opinion that the appropriate responses were completed and that <br />the organization makes use of its property located within the City <br />of Portsmouth exclusively for charitable and benevolent purposes <br />on a non-profit basis. I concur in the City Assessor's opinion <br />and recommend that Council adopt the resolution prepared by %he <br />City Attorney for forwarding to the Portsmouth Delegation to the <br />General Assembly." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF LONDON <br />HOUSE,INC., FOR DESIGNATION AS A CHARITABLE AND BENEVOLENT <br />ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SECTION 6 <br />(a) (6) OF ARTICLE X OF THE CONSTITUTION OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with ~30-19.04 of the Code of <br />Virginias 1950, as amended, the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ <br />Virginia held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 11, 1988 to <br />consider the application for exemption from taxes filed on behalf <br />of London House, Inc. for property located within the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, and used by the applicant exclusively for <br />charitable and benevolent purposes on a non-profit basis as set <br />forth in ~58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended; an¢ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia has <br />examined and considered the provisions of §30-19.04 (B) of the <br />Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, with respect to the petition <br />of London House, Inc.. <br /> <br /> NOW, T~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia supports the request of London House, <br />Inc., a non-profit organization, for designation as a charitable <br />and benevolent organization within the context of ~6 (a) (6) of <br />Article X of the Constitution of Virginia and that its property <br />located within the City of Portsmouth, owned by it and used by it <br />exclusively for charitable and benevolent purposes on a.non-profl~l <br />basis, be determined to be exempt from taxation in accordance wit~l <br />~58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia~ 1950, as amended. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED ~hat the City Clerk bet and she hereb <br />is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to State Senato~ <br />Johnny S.
