<br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the
<br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote:

<br />"A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF CHILD AND
<br />FAMILY SERVICE ~OF SOUTHWEST HAMPTON ROADS, INC., FOR
<br />DESIGNATION AS A CHARITABLE AND BENEVOLENT ORGANIZATION
<br />WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SECTION 6 (a) (~) OF ~RTICLE X OF
<br />THE !CONSTITUTION OF VIRGINIA.

<br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with ~30-19.04 of the Code of
<br />Virginia, 1950; as amended, the Council of the City of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October
<br />11, 1988 to consi'd~r~the application for exemption from taxes
<br />filed On behalf of Child ~nd Family Service ~f Southwest
<br />Hampton Roads, Inc. for property located within the City of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, and used by the applicant exclusively for
<br />charitable and:benevolent' purposes on a non-profit basis as'set
<br />forth in ~58.1-3650.of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended;
<br />and ~

<br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia
<br />has examined and considered the provisions of ~30-19.04 (B) of
<br />the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, with respect to the
<br />petition of Child and Family Service of Southwest Hampton
<br />Roads, Inc.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
<br />City ~f Portsmouth, Virginia supports the request of Child and
<br />Family Service of Southwest Hampton Road, Inc., a non-profit
<br />organization, for designation as a charitable and benevolent
<br />organization within the context of ~6 (a) (6) of Article X of
<br />the Constitution of Virgi~nia and that its property located
<br />within the City of Portsmouth, owned by it and used by it
<br />exclusively for charitable and benevolent purposes on a
<br />non-profit basis, be determined to be exempt from taxation in
<br />accor~amce with ~58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as
<br />amended.

<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she
<br />hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to
<br />State Senator Johnny S. Joannou and Delegates William S. Moore,
<br />Jr. and Kenneth R. Melvin." ~
