Webb, Vice Mayor J. Robert Gray, Jack P. <br />Barnes, E. G. Corprew, Jrt, ~James C% Hawks, L. Louise <br />L~cas, George L. Hanbury, II, City Manager, Steven <br />Lieberman, City Attorney. <br /> <br />Absent: J. Herbert Simpson <br /> <br /> Miss Kendra Hardy, a student at Park View Elementary <br />School, opened th~ meeting with a poem, followed by the Pledge <br />of Allegiance to the~Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb welcomed all visitors in. attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. L~cas and seconded by Mr. Gray, minutes of <br />a called meeting of November 7, 1988; minutes of a Public <br />Hearing of November 7, 1988; minutes of a called meeting of <br />November 8, 1988; minutes of a regular meeting Of November 8, <br />1988f to be approved as received, and was adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> 88-457 - Presentation of a Resolution to Linda Wilson, <br />President of Virginia Paint and Coatings Association, <br />commending the National Paint and Coatings Association for their <br />"Picture It Painted" Program in recognizing the Association for <br />supporting Portsmouth's beautification efforts~ <br /> <br /> MOtion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE NATIONAL PAINT AND COATINGS <br />ASSOCIATION FOR THEIR "PICTURE IT PAINTED"PROGRAM IN <br />RECOGNIZING THE ASSOCIATION FOR SUPPORTING PORTSMOUTHJS <br />BEAUTIFICATION EFFORTS. <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth-, Virginia, <br />recognizes the importance of preserving our housing stock <br />through Painting and other protective coatings; and ~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Paint and Coatings Association has <br />developed and implemented a public relations effort ~ntitled <br />"Picture It Painted" that provides free paint and s~pplies to~ ~ <br />support Volunteer Homes Preservation Projects; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth beautification and Clean Community <br />Commission organized "Picture It Painted in Portsmouth" that <br />utilized over one hundred gallons of paint, donated by the <br />Virginia Chapter of the National Paint and Coatings Association, <br />in providing six (6) needy homeowners with fee h~use painting. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of PortsmoUth, virginia, commends the National Paint and <br />Coatings Association for their "Picture It Painted, Program and <br />thanks them for their support of PortsmOuth's beautification <br />efforts." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb called Linda Wilson forward and presented her <br />with a framed copy of the above resolution. <br /> <br /> <br />
