Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $20,992.88 to the FY10-11 Grants <br />Fund from the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Ms. Psi mas, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,992.82 FROM THE <br />BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE <br />AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2010-2011 GRANTS FUND FOR <br />USE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PURCHASE BULLETPROOF VESTS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Griffin <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />10 - 492 - Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY 2010-2011 Economic <br />Stimulus Fund the sum of $400,000 received from Federal Highway Administration in <br />additional American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for an existing capital <br />improvements project to upgrade the city's traffic signal system. Vision Principle: <br />Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. In April 2009 the City received and appropriated $2,023,543 in ARRA funds for a <br />Traffic Signal System Feasibility Study and Traffic Signal System Design and <br />Implementation project. <br />. This request will appropriate the balance of the ARRA funds available through <br />the FHWA. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The additional $400,000 will fund the balance of the project cost to upgrade the <br />City's traffic signal control system. <br />. This grant requires no monetary match by the City of Portsmouth. Project costs <br />are paid with city funds and reimbursed by VDOT. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. None, this grant does not require a match. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />.
