September 28. 2010 Next Steps Following Council Action: . The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,877.52 FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $2,346.90 IN THE FY 2010-20111 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE BICYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM AT SAFETY TOWN." Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Griffin Nays: None 10 - 448 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $141,643 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice and appropriating said amount in the FY 2010-2011 Grants Fund for use by the Police Department for equipment and technology initiatives. Vision Principles: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community and Bold New Directions. Background: . The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $141,643 from the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance to provide funds for technology, equipment along with continued funding to support the Drug Court Program. Discussion: . The FY2010 Justice Assistance Grant will be used to provide funding for equipment, technology initiatives that will improve the Portsmouth Police Department's ability to respond to incidents within the City. Additionally funds will be used to support the Adult Drug Court programs within the Circuit Court. Financial Impact: . The grant award amount is $141,643 of Department of Justice funds for the Portsmouth Police Department. The City does not have to provide any match monies and there is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended. Staff Recommends: . Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $141,643 from the Department of Justice grant to provide funds for technology, equipment along with continued funding to support Drug Court Program to the Portsmouth Police Department.
