The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,877.52 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND APPROPRIATING THE SUM <br />OF $2,346.90 IN THE FY 2010-20111 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT FOR THE BICYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM AT SAFETY TOWN." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Griffin <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />10 - 448 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $141,643 from <br />the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice and appropriating <br />said amount in the FY 2010-2011 Grants Fund for use by the Police Department for <br />equipment and technology initiatives. Vision Principles: Thriving Neighborhoods and a <br />Sense of Community and Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $141,643 from <br />the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance to provide funds for <br />technology, equipment along with continued funding to support the Drug Court Program. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The FY2010 Justice Assistance Grant will be used to provide funding for <br />equipment, technology initiatives that will improve the Portsmouth Police Department's <br />ability to respond to incidents within the City. Additionally funds will be used to support <br />the Adult Drug Court programs within the Circuit Court. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $141,643 of Department of Justice funds for the <br />Portsmouth Police Department. The City does not have to provide any match monies <br />and there is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />.
