<br />September 28. 2010 <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $47,289.00 of Department of Motor Vehicle funds for <br />the Portsmouth Police Department. The City does have to provide an in-kind match of <br />$9,457.80. There is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $47,289.00 grant from the <br />Department of Motor Vehicle to the Portsmouth Police Department to provide funds for <br />overtime payment, equipment to be utilized for law enforcement in the areas of <br />Comprehensive Speed, DUI / Passenger and CMV Occupant Restraint Enforcement. <br />Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community, Pride of Past, <br />Promise of Future. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Acquire necessary equipment and educate our citizens and commuters to the <br />importance of maintaining safe speeds and utilizing occupant restrains in both <br />passenger and commercial motor vehicles. <br />. The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $47,289 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND APPROPRIATING SAID <br />AMOUNT IN THE FY 2010-2011 GRANTS FUND TO BE USED BY THE POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT FOR COMPREHENSIVE SPEED, DUI, AND PASSENGER AND CMV <br />OCCUPANT RESTRAINT ENFORCEMENT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Griffin <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />10 - 447 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $2,346.90 from <br />the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and appropriating said amount in the FY <br />2010-2011 grants fund for use by the Police Department for the Bicycle Safety Program <br />at Safety Town. Vision Principles: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community, <br />and Pride of Past, Promise of Future. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding in the amount of <br />$2,346.90 from the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV). The funds will be used for <br />acquire safety town instruction and safety materials for elementary school classes. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $1,877.52 from <br />the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) to provide funds to purchase safety town <br />instruction and safety materials for elementary school classes on bicycle safety. This <br />grant requires a 20% cash match of $469.38 for a total amount of $2,346.90. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $2,346.90 of Department of Motor Vehicle funds for <br />the Safety Town. The City does have to provide 20% cash match of $469.38 which will <br />be covered by safety town. There is no obligation from the City once the grant has <br />ended. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $2,346.90 grant from the Department <br />of Motor Vehicle to the Portsmouth Police Department to provide funds for safety town <br />instruction and safety materials for elementary school classes.
