<br />AUQust10.2010 <br /> <br />10 - 377 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant from the Business Consortium for <br />the Arts in the amount of $10,550 and appropriating said funds in the FY 2010-2011 <br />Grants Fund for use by the Portsmouth Museums for the Outdoor Sculpture Competition <br />and Exhibition at the Courthouse Galleries. Vision Principle: Lifelong Learning <br />Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. Each year the Department of Museums, Courthouse Galleries applies to the <br />Business Consortium for Arts Support for a grant to help support exhibitions and <br />programming. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Courthouse Galleries will use the funds for the development, installation and <br />programming for the Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. <br />. 2011 will be the sixth year of this exhibition. <br />. The exhibition will be in the courtyard of the Courthouse Galleries. <br />. The exhibition will open on March 4,2011 and will run through October 9,2011. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. No local cash match is required. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principle: Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Pending approval, the Director of Museums and the Curator of the Courthouse <br />Galleries will ensure that the funds are utilized for the development, installation and <br />programming for the Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE BUSINESS CONSORTIUM FOR <br />THE ARTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,550 AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN <br />THE FY 2010-2011 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE PORTSMOUTH MUSEUMS <br />FOR THE OUTDOOR SCULPTURE COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION AT THE <br />COURTHOUSE GALLERIES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Whitehurst, Griffin <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />10 - 378 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $317,522 from <br />the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and appropriating said amount in <br />the FY 2010-2011 Grants Fund for use by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for the <br />Victim Witness Program. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of <br />Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City of Portsmouth has received a grant from DCJS for continuation funding <br />of the Victim Witness Grant, administered by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. <br />. This grant program has grown over the last 20 years to comprise six full-time <br />appointees who served over 1600 victims last year. <br />. This program provides for comprehensive information and direct services to <br />crime victims and witnesses. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Victim Witness Grant will provide for six full-time appointees dedicated 100% <br />to the Grant's objectives <br />. It is estimated that this program will serve in excess of 1850 victims annually. <br />
