379 <br /> <br />March 14, 1989 <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Hawks and se'conded by Mr. Simpson, the <br />following ordinance was adopted on first and final reading and by <br />the following vote: <br /> <br />~"AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING AND ENACTING A NEW CODE FOR THE <br /> CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF <br /> CERTAIN ORDINANCES MOT INCLUDED THERE~N; ~PROVIDING A <br /> PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER <br /> OF AMENDING SUCH CODE; AND PROVIDING W~EN SUCH CODE <br /> AND THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 89-103 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of an ordinance closing a portion of Jamestown Avenue. <br />"Quarter Century Corporation has made application to close a <br />portion of Jamestown Avenue. <br /> <br /> "The view~Ys previously appointed by council have recommended <br />approval off the application. The Planning Commission concurs in <br />this recommendation. <br /> <br /> The portion of street to be closed does not include the <br />public sidewalk. <br /> <br /> I recommend adoption of the ordinance~closing a portion <br />of Jamestown Avenue as requested by the applicant." <br /> <br /> Kirk Berkeley, 707 London Avenue representing, Quarter <br />Century Corporation, spoke in favor of the closing. <br /> <br /> On motion 6f Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Simpson the <br />following ordinance was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE CLQSING A PORTION OF JAMESTOWN AVENUE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes.
