May 9, 1989 <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. ~cas and seconded by M~. Corprew the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY _~ANAGER TO EXECUTE A <br />GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE VIRGINIA STATE WATER CONTROL <br />BOARD FOR A CHESAPEAKE BAY INITIATIVE GRANT FOR THE <br />TRUXTUN SEWER PROJECT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has ~ade application to the Virginia State <br />Water Control Board for a Chesapeake Bay Initiative Grant to <br />construct the Truxtun Sanitary Sewer Project. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia State Water Control Board has approved <br />the authorization of such grant to the City in the amount of <br />$250,000. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and hereby is, <br />authorized to enter into a grant agreement with the Virginia Stat~ <br />Water Control Board for a Chesapeake Bay Initiative Grant to <br />secure funding for the Truxtun Sewer Project." <br /> <br />Ayes: Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 89-205 - Letter from'the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a resolution endorsing the Clean Community Program of the City <br />of Portsmouth Beautification and Clean Community Commission; <br />authorizing for the City Manager to submit an application for <br />funding. <br /> <br /> "Each year the City of Portsmouth is eligible to~ receive an <br />allocation of state funds from the Virginia Division of Litter <br />Control and Recycling. These funds are used to support the Clean <br />Community Program, progide assistance with litter control <br />projects, purchase litter receptacles, and augment the community <br />awareness and education program. The Portsmouth Beautification <br />and Clean Community Commission has been very active and successfu <br />in promoting these activities in the.City. <br /> <br /> As part of the application process, the Division of Litter <br />Control and Recycling requires that the program be officially <br />endorsed by the local governing body prior, to its submission. I <br />request permission to submit the application to continue <br />Portsmouth's Clean Co~unity Program and have enclosed a <br />resolution of support for your endorsement. I highly recommend <br />your support of this worthwhile program." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs° Lucas and seconded by Mr. Gray the <br />following resolution was adoDted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE CLEAN COMMUNITY PROGR2~M OF THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH BEAUTIFICATION AND CLEAN COMMUNITY <br />COMMISSION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN <br />APPLICATION FOR FUNDING. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />recognized the existence of a litter problem within the boundarie~ <br />of the City and has created the Beautification and Clean Communit~ <br />Commission to assist with litter control and recycling; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Waste Management Act provides, through <br />the Department of Waste Management, Division of Litter Control an~ <br />Recycling, for the allocation of public funds in the form of <br />grants for the purpose of enhancing local litter contro~ and <br />recycling programs; and <br /> <br /> <br />
